Mitchell J Katz was responsible for the planning of, and presided over, the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section (NYSBA) Spring meeting at Saratoga Springs. Over 120 attorneys, including leaders of the New York State Bar Association and members of the judiciary were in attendance for four CLE program's and social events. Mr. Katz became the chair of the Section on June 1, 2017.
The firm is excited to announce that Debra C. Sullivan has joined the firm and will be overseeing the Real Property Valuation practice group. This new department will assist clients with real property tax assessment challenges as well as eminent domain claims.
Debbie has more than 20 years of experience in representing both property owners and taxing authorities in all aspects of real property tax assessment challenges. She also has experience representing clients in connection with eminent domain matters to ensure that they receive “just compensation.” Mrs. Sullivan is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and Vanderbilt Law School, where she served as an editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.

Mitchell J. Katz was the overall program chair for the Annual Meeting of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association, held in New York City on January 27. At the Annual Meeting he was named Chair-Elect of the Section effective June 1, 2016. He currently serves as Vice Chair.

John P. Sidd authored revisions to Article 16 of the New York Not-for-Profit Corporation Law on behalf of the New York Land Bank Association which revisions were passed by the New York State Senate and Assembly and signed into law by Governor Cuomo on October 26, 2015. The revisions will save land banks across the State of New York thousands of dollars in recording fees and in property disposition expenses. The revisions will dramatically improve the efficiency with which land banks are able to dispose of property, thereby expediting the return of tax delinquent, abandoned and vacant property to productive tax paying use. Mr. Sidd is a member of the firm’s Commercial Transactions and Real Estate practice groups.

Mitchell J. Katz recently served as a member of one of the panels at the first Institute on Complex Commercial Litigation, presented by the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. The Institute was formed in furtherance of the 2012 Report of the Chief Judge's Task Force on Commercial Litigation in the 21st Century. Most of the Commercial Division Justices from around New York State were in attendance. The program was hosted and sponsored by Cardozo Law School in New York City.
